The Star
When I was young, there was a lot of talk about wishing upon a star. I believe this notion was made popular by a Disney character Jiminy Cricket.
It went like this:
When you wish upon a star If your heart is in your dream
Makes no difference who you are No request is too extreme
Anything your heart desires When you wish upon a star
Will come to you As dreamers do …….

When you look back to when you were five years old, what did you want to be/do in this life? Have your hopes and dreams be fulfilled? Some people say we come from heaven; others say we come from the stars. Our bodies contain stardust from ancient planetary material hitting the earth - we can all be shining stars!
Pulling the Star card is an indication that this light in this sky may still exist to lend you some power, strength and wish fulfilment. The country of Aotearoa/New Zealand made “Matariki” a national holiday. This is to acknowledge and honour the Pleiades - the Seven Sister star constellation with which many tribes feel a connection. For the Maori, Matariki (the star cluster) was formed when the god of the wind, Tāwhirimātea, was angry when his siblings separated their parents. The sky father, Ranginui was separated from the earth mother Papatūānuku. He tore out his eyes and threw them into the heavens, where they became the "Eyes of the god Tāwhirimātea."
The establishment of this holiday felt very enlightened (by the stars?) to me. The clear presence of this midwinter constellation signals the start of the Māori New Year. It is a time for reflection, celebrating connections to the environment, and remembering loved ones who have passed away. This cluster of stars shows Matariki (the mother) in the centre surrounded by her children, each associated with aspects of the environment including the wind, fresh water, salt water (the ocean), food and rain.
Now, as we approach the spring of 2026 many planetary challenges and invitations present themselves to us. If you live somewhere that feels energetically dark and heavy, dampening the light, it’s time to focus on earth meditation and ways to bring more joy, connection and love into your community. Love and light are the greatest antidotes to hate and gloom. Various forms of oppression on the planet have tried to keep people down. Luckily, whenever people are oppressed, they resist in some way. I’m in favour of us trying to anchor more light on the planet through coming together with like minded-souls.
What will you do today to bring more light into the world?
Even if you yourself have been hurt, or are suffering, how can you take care of yourself and make sure you don’t weaponize your wounds against others. This is one of the biggest challenges the world faces right now. We all need to heal, or at least grab the reigns and be responsible for what we are projecting into the world.
